Church or no Church

A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him. It was a chilly evening. The pastor found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his pastor’s visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a big chair near the fireplace and waited.

Sade's Story 2

She sat in the waiting room, she was here to see Mrs Daniels. She shuddered as she thought of all that had happened between the last time she was here and now. So much
“Sade, How are you, Come inside,” Mrs Daniels said in a very cheerful voice from inside the office
“You seem to be so happy today ma, Good afternoon ma,” Sade replied as she took a sit opposite her
“As Christians are we not supposed to be. The Bible says we should always rejoice, so Joy is our lot, My dear. How have you been. Were you able to do all the assignments faithfully.”
“Yes, I tried ma, I try to pray for at least 30 minutes daily  but sometimes I get so busy that I don’t get to pray, and reading the bible is even harder….”
“Did you fix a particular time for this”
“No”
“That’s  is the mistake you made. There is always something urgent to do, but you have to fix a time daily that you pray and study, prefarably in the mornings, You will set an alarm to wake you up at that time. Since you are still a student you can set it at 5.30am so you can have time before you go for classes. So are you ready for today’s lesson”
“Yes, but I need to tell you some things ma. I seem to get angry easily and I always feel bad when I lash out at others. Since that day I have not see Henry, not to talk of having sex, but I sometimes find myself masturbating and I always feel so bad afterwards. I feel I am the worst xtian walking.”

Sade's Story

She sat upright and held the covers close to her naked body, she gazed at the rumpled bed and the tears came again. She could hear Henry, her ex boyfriend, whistling in the bathroom. He always did that when he had had satisfying sex. How could I? Sade asked herself for the umpteenth time.

The Hare and the Tortoise

The hare boasted that he was the swiftest animal in the forest. When he challenged the others to a race, only
the tortoise dared to try.  To the hare, it seemed an unfair contest, since he would win easily.

"But off they started, with the tortoise soon trailing far behind. On the way, the hare decided there was time for a nap, but the tortoise kept plodding along.  When the hare awoke, he couldn't see the tortoise

Green with Envy

Centuries ago in the country of Greece there was a young athlete who had so distinguished himself in the public games that his fellow citizens raised a statue in his honor, to keep fresh the memory of his victories.

This statue so excited the envy of another athlete who had been defeated in the races, that one night he went out under cover of darkness with the intention of destroying that statue and knocking it to pieces.

First he tried and tried to tip over the statue. He tugged and pulled and shoved... and after an hour it moved just a little bit.

The Story of Shaddai

LONG AGO IN A LAND FAR AWAY and unlike any you've ever seen, there lived a wise man named Shaddai.

Shaddai was a large man with a tender heart. He had bright blue eyes and a long, thick beard. When He laughed, which is something He did often, His cheeks would lift until His eyes became half-moons of joy.
When He sang, which is something else He did often, everything stopped to listen. Tall aspens could bend. Squirrels, butterflies, and birds would pause.

Unanswered Prayers

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man’s parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing.

Finding Diamonds everyday

Albert Einstein said "In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity."

Once discovered, such opportunities are like valuable diamonds hidden in the sand.

When I was a church pastor, a man stopped by my office to see me. He held out his hand and in it was a small, plastic gem stone. "I stepped on this gem stone when I was leaving church last Sunday," he explained. "It became lodged in the sole of my shoe.

You had spoken about how we are surrounded by diamonds -- we only need to recognize them. I put the plastic stone in my pocket to remind me to recognize the "diamonds" that I need.

The Beautiful Cup

There was a couple who took a trip to England to shop in a beautiful antique store to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They both liked antiques and pottery, and especially teacups. Spotting an exceptional cup, they asked “May we see that? We’ve never seen a cup quite so beautiful.”

As the lady handed it to them, suddenly the teacup spoke, “You don’t understand. I have not always been a teacup. There was a time when I was just a lump of red clay. My master took me and rolled me pounded and patted me over and over and I yelled out, ‘Don’t do that. I don’t like it! Let me alone.’ But he only smiled, and gently said; ‘Not yet!’” “Then. WHAM! I was placed on a spinning wheel and suddenly I was spun around and around and around. ‘Stop it! I’m getting so dizzy! I’m going to be sick,’ I screamed. But the master only nodded and said, quietly; ‘Not yet.’

The king made a banquet and ordered his clever slave to serve the best food that money could buy.

The main food at the meal was tongue... all kinds of tongue cooked in all kinds of ways.

All the side dishes and even dessert were also tongue... When the king objected, the slave said: "My Lord, what excels the tongue? It is the channel of wisdom and learning. By it we make speeches and carry out business. By it great persons are made known.

Grandpa

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in- law, and four-year old grandson. The old man’s hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table, but the elderly grandfather’ s shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

An old man seated in the doctor's waiting room, when called in to see the doctor, slowly got up, and, grasping his cane and hunching over, slowly made his way into the examining room. After only a few minutes, the man emerged from the room, walking completely upright! A patient who had watched him hobble into the room all hunched over, stared in amazement.

"That must be a miracle doctor in there!" he exclaimed. "What treatment did he give you? What's his secret?"

But no matter how much gold Midas collected and put into his vaults, it was not enough. He always wanted more, and he spent much of his time dreaming about how to obtain still more gold.

The winner

I was watching some little kids play soccer. These kids were only five or six years old, but they were playing a real game - - a serious game -- two teams, complete with coaches, uniforms, and parents. I didn't know any of them, so I was able to enjoy the game without the distraction of being anxious about winning or losing - I wished the parents and coaches could have done the same.

The Special Hand

The first grade teacher gave her class a fun assignment — to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.

Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies of the season. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her student’s art. And they were.

My Austin (Pt 2)

I am sure you have all been looking forward to the concluding part of the story. As I said he still had the effrontery to come to my office on Tuesday. I was at a loss or what to do. I left him in the lobby for about an hour. Dayo, who was a coworker, offered to help me handle him after I told her the story. I said Okay. She went for a while and after talking to him came back to call me ( she literarily dragged me). As i looked at him. A very hateful and vengeful feeling rose up in me ( In fact, If  I  had a gun I would have shot him, but thank God I didnt). He looked at me with a piteous eye and proceeded to tell me he was sorry. Sorry, my foot, my  head screamed.

My Austin

I always loved to rejoice with those that rejoice and that was my motive as i joined the whole church in celebration of the arrival of a new baby. As we got to the front, the Pastor-in-charge prayed for the baby and stretched the phone to the father of the baby for his testimony
"Praise the Lord," he boomed.
I jerked at the voice. The voice was so familiar as i stretched my neck to look at the father, I opened my mouth wide enough to allow a ball  of eba. Its not true, i kept repeating. This was the same guy who had dropped a Card and a bottle of wine for me at my office the previous week. He couldn't be married, I reasoned. This is Austin, my Austin.

What do you hear

“That’s incredible,” said his friend. “You must have superhuman ears!”

A Native American and his friend were in downtown New York City, walking near Times Square in Manhattan. It was during the noon lunch hour and the streets were filled with people.

My Love Story (Pt 2)

Yes…. Did I say I called it quits totally. Yes I did with the help of God, and you can trust the devil he continually whispered words of doubt telling me not to loose the guy that seems to love me so much, and to make matters worse, he was still hanging around, but I remained resolute and stood my ground.

At that time I had plans to travel to America for further studies but I felt in my spirit that that was not the step for me to take. God showed himself strong and I got a good job with one of the best banks in Nigeria (though I’ve left the bank now. They are still on top of their game).

My getting the job truncated all my plans for going for my masters and positioned me to meet him. Yes back to our gist. God sent someone to me exactly eight months after the break up but he didn’t look like what I wanted because of all the reasons outlined below.

My Love Story (pt1)

“Aderonke, how are you,” My one and only elder sister said to me on phone
“I’m fine”
“What is this am hearing about you being in a relationship with someone who is not born again,” She accused
“No, I am not in a relationship with him. Its just that I am in love with him.” I Stammered
“You know he is not even someone ready to become a Christian. His denomination does not even believe in the Holy Ghost and so many other things. That love is not love; you better cancel it from your heart. There is more to marriage than feelings” She said matter of factly as she said her goobyes and dropped.

Everyone doesn’t seem to understand me, I moped. Have they ever been in love. Have they ever felt so loved. I laid down on the bed and the tears seemed to come again.
“God, you are my only ally, Try to understand me,” I plead in my heart

Rich or Poor

I’ll never forget Easter 1946. I was 14, my little sister Ocy, 12, and my older sister Darlene, 16. We lived at home with our mother, and the four of us knew what it was to do without many things. My dad had died 5 years before, leaving Mom with seven school kids to raise and no money. By 1946, my older sisters were married, and my brothers had left home. A month before Easter, the pastor of our church announced that a special Easter offering would be taken to help a poor family. He asked everyone to save and give sacrificially.

When we got home, we talked about what we could do.

Wait to get dressed

My son, Inioluwa, (He is 1 yr and seven months) has a habit of running around butt naked after his bath. I always have to chase him before I can get him dressed up. This morning it was quite chilly, so as soon as I bath him I hurriedly pulled him to the room so as to dress him up.

He screamed and struggled so much so that I found it difficult to wear his trousers. I had no choice but to throw him on the bed face down and put my leg on him (to hold him down). Then and only then was I able to dress him up , though as you guessed, the screaming and struggling continued but  I didn’t let him go until I succeeded in dressing him up.

An old story is told of a king in Africa who had a close friend with whom he grew up. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, “This is good!”

With a deep sob, I tried to will myself into oblivion, then welcomed the blackness that came over me.

Nothing is Impossible

I don’t think there is anything this woman can’t do; absolutely amazing. Oxford and Cambridge have now decided to remove the words CAN’T and IMPOSSIBLE from their dictionaries.

Jessica Cox, 25, a girl born without arms, stands inside an aircraft. The girl from Tucson, Arizona got the Sport Pilot certificate lately and became the first pilot licensed to fly using only her feet. Jessica Cox of Tucson was born without arms, but that has only stopped her from doing one thing: using the word “can’t.”

Her latest flight into the seemingly impossible is becoming the first pilot licensed to fly using only her feet. With one foot manning the controls and the other delicately guiding the steering column, Cox, 25, soared to achieve a Sport Pilot certificate. Her certificate qualifies her to fly a light-sport aircraft to altitudes of 10,000 feet.

“She’s a good pilot. She’s rock solid,” said Parrish Traweek, 42, the flying instructor at San Manuel’s Ray Blair Airport.

Parrish Traweek runs PC Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Services and has trained many pilots, some of whom didn’t come close to Cox’s abilities.

When she came up here driving a car,” Traweek recalled, “I knew she’d have no problem flying a plane..”

Doctors never learned why she was born without arms, but she figured out early on that she didn’t want to use prosthetic devices.

Jessica Cox, 25, earned a license to fly airplanes on October 10, 2008. Jessica also has two black belts in Tae Kwan-Do, a college degree in Psychology, and a thriving career as a motivational speaker. What doesn’t Jessica Cox have? Arms. A bilateral congenital limb deficiency doesn’t stop Ms. Cox from achieving and surpassing her s.  goals. From birth on, her feet became her hands. She can drive a car, type 25 words per minute, and fly an airplane using her feet, without any special adaptations. She is the first woman without arms to earn a license to fly.

Jessica earned her Sport Pilot certificate after training with Able Flight, a North Carolina flight training company that specializes in helping people with disabilities learn to fly. Ms. Cox won an Able Flight scholarship and was able to train with instructor Parrish Traweek free of charge.
